My current work explores the relationship between form and function creating bespoke objects that capture the individuality of handmade. Juxtaposing classical forms with experimental surfaces as a contemporary take on the ancient practice.
My ceramics are strongly influenced by my surrounding environments. After studying Fine Art at Falmouth University, I find myself repeatedly drawn to the Cornish coastline with reference to colours and textures throughout my work.
Inspired by Impressionist ideals my aim is for my pieces to capture a fleeting moment, and the essence of an environment. Evoking a romanticised sense of place and nostalgia. Experimenting with raw materials collected from the environment, combining glazes, oxides and natural materials, has allowed me to shape the raw earth into new forms, embedded with narrative reflecting the clay's organic origins.
